HAIP Launch Event
04/24/2008
On April 24, the Houston Area
Immunization Partnership launched its new mission, vision and scope
of operations to a packed house at a Rotary sponsored luncheon.
Dr.
Carol Baker, member of the Advisory Committee on Immunization
Practices (ACIP) and noted author of the Red Book, spoke on
“Immunizations: Truth or Consequences” and warned the crowd that
the current backlash against immunizations in the media was very
dangerous. She urged parents and providers to know the facts about
the true risk of choosing not to immunize children and reminded the
group that immunizations have been one of the most important public
health measures to protect our community against vaccine preventable
diseases.
After she spoke, the Houston Area Immunization Partnership
awarded Frankie Milley, Founder of Meningitis Angels, with the first
annual “Protector” award to recognize her dedication to
protecting our community from deadly vaccine preventable diseases.
